Jesus On The Cross

Many theologians through the years have taught that when Jesus was on the cross there was a period of time where he suffered alone, forsaken by the Father. Jesus became sin, 2 Cor.5:21. Since God cannot look upon sin, Hab.1:13, therefore, when Jesus became sin God forsook Him. Ps.22:1, Matt.27: 46.
Though there are some spiritual and theological implications to these verses there is also a discerning that needs to happen based on the whole of Scripture, 2 Peter 1:21.
If you hold this concept to be true and apply it to all the creation then how can God be present or look down here at all? How can the Holy Spirit take up residence in the believer if God cannot look upon sin or be in the presence of sin? Interestedly God promises to never leave us or forsake us.
Here is a website that lists 100 verses that promise this: https://www.openbible.info/topics/i_will_never_leave_you_nor_forsake_you.
If God promised not to forsake us why would he forsake His Son when Jesus needed Him the most? Jesus may have felt like He was forsaken just as we do sometimes but, we are never forsaken and neither was Jesus.
