The Law of Sin and Death vs. The Law of Freedom in Christ

Adam and Eve’s sin was forgiven by the mercy of God. But the law of sin and death was not to be broken.

God follows even His own laws that govern the universe. So Jesus had to die to

satisfy justice and law of sin and death. Thinking about this I realize something of great importance.

As limited as we are, because of our flesh, we are still made to soar. God wants to take us to greater heights of understanding. The problem is the our sin tethers us to the earth and the darkness of this realm. Even though as believers we are forgiven for our sin there are still consequences and affects when we sin. We are held back from soaring to the heights of understanding with God. If we can release our sin and recognize that it is holding us back, and that we were meant to soar, then we can soar.

We can escape the prison of sin travel to the heights of understanding and light with God.

Sin is actually, for the believer, a prison with no door holding us back from release. We just need to see that there is no door and want to walk out. Part of the problem, probably the greatest part, is that we don't want to be free. Our perspective is so limited that we actually want to stay in prison. If,... if, we realize and step out and soar to the heights we will never go back. However our sin, so ingrained in us by our flesh, is hard to overcome.

So how do we overcome sin?

John Paul talks about temptation and the moment of choice. It is in that moment that we need to choose the right. We are so complicated in our minds that we often confuse what is right. What is the right choice. There is good and then there is God.

We often choose what we perceive as good, but it still has negative consequences, because of our limited perception. Only by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit can we choose what is truly good, what is truly God. So it seems to come down to this, can I trust God in the moment, any moment, to impart to me the wisdom I need to make the right choice.

Some choices are obvious, do I lie or tell the truth? Obvious. But do I turn right or left at this intersection? Much more subtle. Do I take the promotion or not? Do I move or not, Do I buy that car or not? In thinking about it this way it seems restrictive, like God wants to control every detail of our lives, but that is far from

the truth. If we understand the nature of God and we operate in this world with that

understanding, then the choice becomes obvious. We will actually want to do what God wants, ‘Thy will be done on Earth’, because it is the best thing for us and all people around us. Then trusting God and following Him, obeying Him, operating with an understanding of the nature of God, will actually be freedom. We are free to choose what wisdom says is the right choice. And it actually is the right choice, the choice that helps use soar.
