Some basic principles to stand firm upon.

1. No matter how big we think God is, He is still greater than that! Too often we put God in a box and thereby limit Him in some way. There may be many reason why we do this but, whatever the reason, a god in a box is an idol and not the God of the Scripture.

2. God is not like us. He is the origin of all things. Sometimes we can be like God, but He is not like us. God created humanity in the garden and humanity became the crown of the physical realm. God however is wholly different from us. He is not like us in any way. Since He is the creator and origin of all things if follows only that we may be like Him in some ways.

In Ex. 33 Moses wanted to know God and His ways. This request came after Moses had been in the presence of God many time and had numerous interactions with God. Even after that Moses realized that he did not know or understand God, hence the question. Knowing God better may afford us greater understanding but it is impossible for a finite mind of meager intelligence to really understand the infinite God of the Scriptures. God created us in His own image so in that way we are like God. When you meet God in whatever way He chooses to reveal Himself to you, it is then that you know that He is not like us.

3. If satan is always lying and God is always telling the truth, why do we believe satan and doubt God? 1 John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. Why would God need to tell us that He is light and then say that He has no darkness at all? It seems an unnecessary statement until you realize that we have light in us as believers but we also have darkness.

Romans 7 reminds of this darkness of the flesh and soul and the power that is has to sway us. This darkness is one of the reasons why we find it easy to believe the lie of the enemy. The darkness in us agrees with the darkness in him, even as he is lying to us. Another reason is that satan is a father. John 8:44 says, You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Therefore, as a father, we hear him in that capacity and with the authority of a father.
